Presumptive President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. names "Inday" Sara Duterte as Secretary of Education

Mayor Duterte, the eldest daughter of the incumbent President Duterte and a lawyer is married to Manases “Mans” Carpio, wich is also a lawyer, and they have three children, namely; Sharky, Stingray and Stonefish.

Mayor Duterte studied BS Respiratory Therapy at San Pedro College before entering politics, graduating in 1999. She apparently wanted to be a doctor, which she said was adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Six years later, she had earned her law degree.

During the May 9 elections, Mayor Duterte served as Marcos' running mate under the UniTeam banner. They both appeared to win landslide victories in the vice presidential and presidential races, with over 31 million votes each.

Marcos Jr. told the media in his 7-minute statement, “I have been authorized to announce the first nominee that we will be giving to the Commission on Appointments when the time comes, should I be proclaimed, and that is that the incoming vice president has agreed to take the brief of the Department of Education,”

“Tinanong ko sa kanya kung kaya niya ‘yung trabaho dahil mahirap ang trabaho ng Secretary of Education, pero nag-agree naman siya, at palagay ko kasama na diyan dahil she is a mother,” said Marcos Jr.

(I asked her if she wants the job because it is hard to be a Secretary of Education but she agreed, and I think part of her reason was because she is a mother.)

“She wants to make sure that the children are well-trained and well-educated and that is the best motivation that we can hope for,” he added.

“Inday Sara” announced her acceptance of the DepEd post last May 12, a day after Marcos revealed her nomination for it.
